Reality
How is it that two neighbors can look out their window at the exact same thing, and see something completely different? This is a question many people in America are asking now. We explore it by visiting a small community in Minnesota, called Eagle's Nest Township, that has a unique experience with the reality divide: some of the people in the town believe that wild black bears are gentle animals you can feed with your hands, and others think they are dangerous killers. This divide leads to conflict and, ultimately, a tragic death. So, is there a "real" truth about the bear, or is each side constructing its own reality? In part two we look at attempts to escape these self-made constructs. We follow one man's epic experiment to break out of his reality bubble. And one woman's epic-in-its-own-way experiment to break out of her species bubble!

Advances in computing and displays have enabled a recent surge in low-cost, mixed-reality devices, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). These new capabilities have resulted in substantial interest in the development of medical extended reality (MXR) devices. Clinical researchers and medical device developers have begun to leverage this nascent technology for critical surgery, diagnostics, and therapeutics. However, because of the pace of development, the evaluation of MXR devices has significantly lagged, causing inefficiency and increased regulatory burden in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of MXR applications and in identifying acceptable claims.
For nearly 10 years, Moverio has been a world-leader in smart glasses bringing the power of augmented reality to a variety of industries and applications with a focus on image quality, comfort and durability.
Evan W. Gadda is a student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying Musical Theatre. The team at @One Digital Media within the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center was able to bring a virtual reality experience to him with the hopes to bring this to more people.
VR is an emergent technology that seeks to simulate reality by providing the user with an immersive visual, aural, and haptic experience. VR has moved from limited uses in military simulation and training to a commercially available mainstream technology.
@Reality, a virtual reality + augmented reality studio, to open at Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center - @Reality will provide the University community with a dedicated space, equipment, software and expertise to properly support experimentation, exploration of virtual reality and augmented reality mediums.
To create an augmented reality headset with X-ray vision, the researchers first had to outfit an existing headset with an antenna that could communicate with RFID-tagged items. Most RFID localization systems use multiple antennas located meters apart, but the researchers needed one lightweight antenna that could achieve high enough bandwidth to communicate with the tags.
The Congressional Caucus on Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality Technologies will work to promote the advancing technologies of virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality to Members of Congress and their teams.
This software is the foundation on which the mixed reality experience is built. From here, a click of the Magic Leap icon and a glance at a QR code transports the content from Viewer into mixed reality.
In our Virtual Reality program, students are pioneering the revolutionary medium of VR and expanding use of the metaverse. Learn to create an immersive reality that can inform, educate, entertain, and change the way we think about industries including healthcare, architecture, education, media, and more. Whether you create a safer work environment, champion social justice and reform, or help people recover from trauma, the virtual reality degree will allow you to be a catalyst for positive change. Virtual Reality Development graduates will join a multibillion-dollar, rapidly growing industry. Make your impact on the world by reimagining and redefining the ways we intersect immersive reality, design, technology, critical thinking, and creativity.
Ringling VR students and the acclaimed Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa teamed up in 2019 to develop creative content for digital healthcare technologies, including virtual reality, animations for patient education, and training videos for physicians. Patients receiving radiation treatments, for example, are now able to immerse themselves in VR and experience what the treatments will be like before they happen. Check out our Blog to learn more about this exciting intersection of creativity, technology, and design!
In contrast to augmented reality, in a virtual reality experience, users are fully immersed in a simulated digital environment. Individuals must put on a VR headset or head-mounted display to get a 360 -degree view of an artificial world that fools their brain into believing they are, e.g., walking on the moon, swimming under the ocean or stepped into whatever new world the VR developers created. The gaming and entertainment industry were early adopters of this technology; however, companies in several industries such as healthcare, construction, engineering, the military, and more are finding VR to be very useful.
In mixed reality, digital and real-world objects co-exist and can interact with one another in real-time. This is the latest immersive technology and is sometimes referred to as hybrid reality. It requires an MR headset and a lot more processing power than VR or AR. Microsoft's HoloLens is a great example that, e.g., allows you to place digital objects into the room you are standing in and give you the ability to spin it around or interact with the digital object in any way possible. Companies are exploring ways they can put mixed reality to work to solve problems, support initiatives, and make their businesses better.
By the end of the specialisation you will be able to develop your very own Virtual Reality game. You will take the skills you have developed in each of the preceding courses and, using Unity, you will put these into practice to create your first virtual reality game.
In its earnings report after the bell on Wednesday, Meta said its Reality Labs division, home to the company's virtual reality technologies and projects, posted a $4.28 billion operating loss in the fourth quarter, bringing its total for 2022 to $13.72 billion.
An employment relationship under the FLSA must be distinguished from a strictly contractual one. Such a relationship must exist for any provision of the FLSA to apply to any person engaged in work which may otherwise be subject to the Act. In the application of the FLSA an employee, as distinguished from a person who is engaged in a business of his or her own, is one who, as a matter of economic reality, follows the usual path of an employee and is dependent on the business which he or she serves. The employer-employee relationship under the FLSA is tested by "economic reality" rather than "technical concepts." It is not determined by the common law standards relating to master and servant.
(1) One of the most common problems is in the construction industry where contractors hire so-called independent contractors, who in reality should be considered employees because they do not meet the tests for independence, as stated above. (2) Franchise arrangements can pose problems in this area as well. Depending on the level of control the franchisor has over the franchisee, employees of the latter may be considered to be employed by the franchisor. (3) A situation involving a person volunteering his or her services for another may also result in an employment relationship. For example, a person who is an employee cannot "volunteer" his/her services to the employer to perform the same type service performed as an employee. Of course, individuals may volunteer or donate their services to religious, public service, and non-profit organizations, without contemplation of pay, and not be considered employees of such organization. (4) Trainees or students may also be employees, depending on the circumstances of their activities for the employer. (5) People who perform work at their own home are often improperly considered as independent contractors. The Act covers such homeworkers as employees and they are entitled to all benefits of the law.
Apollo 11 Virtual Reality is the story of the greatest journey ever taken by humankind. This virtual reality experience is the recreation of the events which took place between July 16th and July 24th, 1969. Now, for the first time ever, you get to experience this historic event through the eyes of those who lived it.
Virtual reality (VR) offers significant potential in the areas of teaching, learning and research. The VR Lab in Waldo Library at Western Michigan University provides a space for you to explore this technology.
